Cinematic Titanic

May 18th, 2009 | 15:49

On Saturday night, Kathleen, Michael, and I went to see Cinematic Titanic at the Alliance Theatre.

It was basically everything I’d hoped it would be, essentially MST3K: live. The movie was “Danger on Tiki Island,” which was perfectly awful and great riffing material for Joel and the gang.

We also ate at Soul Vegitarian for the first time ever, even though we’ve lived across the street from it for two years now. It was some pretty darn good food.

Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris

May 2nd, 2009 | 17:17

On Wednesday, Kathleen and I went to see the Alliance Theatre put on the play “Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris”

It was a musical, but felt more modern than most musicals I’ve seen. It was humourus, but also sad at times. I liked it quite a bit.

It was only four people in the show, and they had a jazz band on stage through the whole show providing the music.

Mahler’s Symphony No 6

Last Thursday (4/23) Kathleen and I went to see the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra perform Mahler’s Sixth Symphony with her boss and her boss’s husband. Donald Runnicles was the conductor. He’s the Chief Conductor of the BBC Scottish Orchestra, so that’s pretty cool.

I really enjoyed it, and will have to start taking advantage of Kathleen’s job to go see more shows by the ASO.

Her boss treated us to dinner at Atmosphere beforehand. Which was awesome of them. And the food there was really good.

Wilco

Kathleen and I went to Athens to see Wilco last Monday night. I honestly hadn’t thought about the coincidence of the show being on 4/20… Oh well… Had a good time. They played for a little over 2 hours.

And they mostly played old stuff, which really made me happy. Not that I don’t like Sky Blue Sky, but this was the first time I’d seen them live.

Venice is Sinking

April 8th, 2009 | 14:59

Kathleen and I went to see James’ band Venice is Sinking last Friday night. It was a CD release show at Kavarna in Oakhurst. They were great of course.

Today, I found out that Merge Records XX festival tickets went on sale today, and they sold out today… that sucks. I was really wanting to go. I’ve never seen Superchunk in concert, and they don’t tour much at all these days… oh well…
