Jenny Lewis

Jenny Lewis at the Variety Playhouse

We went to see Jenny Lewis at the Variety Playhouse. First time I’ve seen her live. It was a great show, I love the VP. We walked to l5p, ate dinner, saw three bands, and walked home by 11. Even though it makes me feel old, I’m tired of going to venues where the bands aren’t finished playing until 1:30, at least on week nights.

And it made me really wish I was already working freelance because the day of the show she said they all were hanging out at the coffee shop accross the street from my apartment.

The two opening bands, Michael Runion and Benji Hughes, were both pretty good.

Stereolab

This (and the next post to follow) are now REALLY old, Sorry…

Kathleen and I went to see Stereolab at the Variety Playhouse. It was a really good show except the new security gaurd that didn’t like us filming, which has never been a problem in the past.

Silver Jews and Monotonix

October 7th, 2008 | 10:59

I’m really late posting this, but we went to see Silver Jews over three weeks ago with Brent, Alexis, Eric, and Kelly.

Monotonix opened for them, which was quite a show…
We were sitting on the right side where they have the plastic chairs set up. They started out on the floor in the front. Then half way through they drug all their equipment over directly in front of us.

Happy Birthday IE6… now please die!

August 28th, 2008 | 13:05

Yesterday was the SEVENTH anniversary of the launch of Internet Explorer 6. And unfortunately, a large number of people are STILL using this old and broken browser.

Now you may think, “what do you care what web browser I am using?” Well, as I was coding the latest site for my web development side job, I decided to use it as an example to show just how much extra work is caused by people still using IE 6.

After I had finished the main frame layout for each page, I stopped to check it across all the major browsers. Here are the results:

Firefox:

Safari:

IE7(yes, IE7 is *almost* a decent browser):

and here is that same page, as displayed in IE6:

So, to anyone who is still using Internet Explorer 6, this is where I have to start *breaking* the code, and substituting images to make it look right for you and your retarded browser. And that process is usually looong and painful. Luckily, Microsoft actually allows us to deliver a hack-ridden formatting in a way that only IE can see, therefore not muddling up the other (standards compliant) browsers code. Never-the-less, it causes many long hours wasted on every site you code.

So I beg you… Please update or switch to firefox!
